If you’re wanting consistent and reliable wireless connectivity at your home, a mesh network is the way to go. I originally purchased a Linksys Velop Mesh WiFi 2-pack system which was more than enough for my 2,000 sq ft home but I ended up adding a third Velop in the garage a few months later to improve the signal for my outdoor devices.

I’ve had this system for about 9 months but it wasn’t until a recent firmware update unlocked some features that gave me the ability to really dial things in.

This is a tri-band system which means it has a 2.4ghz radio and two 5ghz radios. One of the 5ghz radios acts as the system’s data back channel. The latest firmware gave me the ability to give each of these radios a unique SSID as well as the ability to not broadcast an SSID.

I have a lot of devices that use wireless and noticed initial latency when all three radios used the same SSID as different devices handle frequencies and signal strength differently. Once I hard-coded specific devices to specific networks, everything just works great.

Another cool feature of Linksys Velop Mesh WiFi is the ability to create a “guest” network for visitors. It keeps their traffic separate on a different network.

I have yet to experience any performance issues and all of my devices inside and outside the house get the full 100/100mpbs from my ISP.
